Telephone codes

A telephone code is generally a short number to be dialled before the telephone number to be called, usually when you wish to make a call abroad. An area code is the telephone root for calling an area within a country. In our case, the area code for France is (00)33, which means that when one wishes to call France from abroad, one must systematically enter (00)33 before the telephone number to call. On the other hand, this dialling code (0033) is not necessary when you are in France. France has 5 area codes: 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05. They correspond to a division of France into 5 telephone zones as shown on the map above. It is easy to get a first clue as to where a phone call is coming from.
